Well, hello there!  I know, I know I have been missing for almost a month.  I will share the why behind that at another time.  But, we need to finish this series on Chemicals.   Today,  we are going to chat about Talc.

Talc.

This is a chemical that has been directly/indirectly linked to ovarian cancer.

Talcum powder is made from talc, a mineral made up mainly of the elements magnesium, silicon, and oxygen. As a powder, it absorbs moisture well and helps cut down on friction, making it useful for keeping skin dry and helping to prevent rashes. It is widely used in cosmetic products such as baby powder and adult body and facial powders, as well as in a number of other consumer products.

There is a lot of different opinions on Talc… the ACS does acknowledge that it “has been suggested” that talc, say, in body powder or baby powder, could cause ovarian cancer if the powder comes in direct contact with the genital area.

Now,  this is a harsh chemical that has been widely talked about in the news over the years.  And when you read the articles and the research you can see that there is still A LOT of debate.

My thoughts:  if there is a chance, why risk it.  Simply swapping out your name brand powder for all natural corn starch gives you the same results with no risk.  And to top it off.  It’s cheaper.  If you thing you are going to miss the smell of your favorite powder add a drop or two of lavender to your corn starch.

Here is a DIY trick for you.  Take a glass jar, add your corn starch and oil.  Put lid on and shake it up till well mixed.  Then, remove the lid and poke some small pin holes in it.  Makes a easy way for application.
